2. Introduction to the Visa Category Show Details
1. Hajj (Biometrics Process at VSC)
Introduction:

Hajj visas/ permits for entry into the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia are issued to pilgrims of Islamic religion for the purpose of performing Hajj. This visa is free of cost and is valid for entry only in to Jeddah, Makkah and Madinah.

Important dates (Represented in Islamic calendar month of each year):
Period for visa issuance for Hajj: Mid- Shawwal until 25th day of Dhual-Qa'dah
Hajj period: 8th to 13th days of Dhul-Hijjah
Last day to enter the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for Hajj: 4th day of Dhul-Hijjah
Last day to leave the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia after performing Hajj: 10th day of Muharram

Upon arrival into the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, pilgrims are required to submit their passports to the Unified Agents Office representatives for processing the travel formalities for Makkah and Madinah.

Process:
  • Each applicant for a Hajj visa must apply through a licensed travel agency
  • Please check the document requirements for applying for a Hajj Visa and submit these to the licensed travel agent prior to the visa issuance period mentioned in the table above
  • All pilgrims are required to submit their biometrics data at the VFS Tasheel Visa Service Centre.
  • Schedule an appointment with the VFS Tasheel Visa Service Centre yourself, through your travel agent or through the call centre at Call centre no.
  • Refer to the How to apply section for further details on the application procedure and list of documents to be carried to the Visa Service Centre
  • Children below the age of 5 years are not required to submit their biometrics data.
  • The Hajj committees and agents have direct access to the Hajj applications in the MoFA system and the Mission will review the applications and make the decision on visa issuance.
Guidelines:
  • All non-resident and non-GCC travellers require a visa for traveling within the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
  • Applicants from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries do not require a visa to enter into the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for the purpose of Hajj, however a Hajj Permit is necessary.
  • During the three weeks of Hajj period, travellers holding a Hajj visa must enter the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia only through Jeddah or Madinah and shall not be allowed entry through Riyadh and Dammam by the Immigrations department.
  • The above term shall apply to travellers from all nationalities except the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) who shall be accepted without any restriction.
  • All UAE nationals are required to carry their passports to travel to/ from Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and GCC ID cards will no longer be accepted by Saudi Authorities
  • Travellers are required to carry vaccination certificates with them for inspection by the Saudi Authority at port of entry.

2. Umrah (Biometrics Process at VSC)
Introduction:

Umrah visas for entry into the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia are issued to pilgrims of Islamic religion for the purpose of performing Umrah. This visa is free of cost and can be applied for all around the year.

The Umrah visa is valid for a period of 30 days; however pilgrims are required to perform Umrah and exit the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia within two weeks of the date of entry.

During the period of Ramadan, the Umrah visa cannot exceed the last day of Ramadan and pilgrims are required to exit the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia prior to Eid-ul-Fitr.

Process:
  • Each applicant for an Umrah visa must apply through an Umrah company approved by the Ministry of Hajj in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
  • Please check the document requirements for applying for an Umrah Visa and submit these to the licensed travel agent
  • All pilgrims are required to submit their biometrics data at the VFS Tasheel Visa Service Centre.
  • Schedule an appointment with the VFS Tasheel Visa Service Centre yourself, through your travel agent or through the call centre at Call centre no.
  • Refer to the How to apply section for further details on the application procedure and list of documents to be carried to the Visa Service Centre
  • Children below the age of 5 years are not required to submit their biometrics data.
  • The Mission will review the applications and make the decision on visa issuance.

3. Business (Commercial) Visit

This visa is for business purposes and includes travel to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for business meetings and seminars for senior executives and professionals.

The Visa is also called 'Commercial Visit Visa'. The process requires a sponsoring company (or employer) to fill a visa request on the MoFA website and take a paper copy of the request to the Chamber of Commerce for legalization. The Chamber of Commerce then sends the legalization electronically to the MoFA website, which can be seen by the local Embassies. Visa application can thereafter be submitted by the applicant.

This visa does not grant the applicant a resident or work permit for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

4. Family Visa

This is a short term visit visa issued to family members of workers to visit them in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Applicants applying for a visa under this category will be required to provide the details of the sponsor residing in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia including the below:

  • Electronic Waqala (Visa slip)
  • Passport copy of the sponsor (first & last page) with spouse name endorsed on the passport and original and photocopy of birth certificate of children (if applicable) is required.
  • Copy of AQMA (resident permit of the sponsor)
  • Marriage certificate or proof of relationship (as applicable) with the sponsor

5. Government Visa

This visa is for applicants invited by the Government. This visa request is entered on the MoFA system by the Government sponsor with a cover letter. The visa is not entered on Enjaz IT system and is free of charge.

For citizens of the United States of America, a copy of the green card or a document confirming legal residence in the U.S. is essential.

6. Personal Visit Visa

The Personal Visit Visa is issued for purposes such as attending a wedding, visiting friends, etc in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. A sponsor would be required for this visa issued to friends and invitees. This visa is not for tourist or business purposes.

7. Business Visa

This visa is for businessmen who want to explore the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for business opportunities, investments, or as representatives of U.S. companies and partnerships. This visa is issued without the need for a sponsor and is meant only for senior C-Level officials and heads of established businesses.

8. Tourist Visa

Visa application can be made only via approved travel agents after obtaining an approval (for named requests) from the High Commission of Tourism. Tourist visas are issued for a limited set of countries only and not issued from all countries.

9. Work Visa

This Visa is for long term workers working in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The Ministry of Labour (MOL) provides approvals for (unnamed) worker positions - electronically and directly into the MoFA system which are associated with names once the application is submitted at the mission.

Separate Waqala/ Visa copy are issued to individuals. The Agent will issue a MoFA number after the Wakala is issued and this will be used as reference for the Medical examination, which is mandatory for this visa category.

When the workers reach the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, they obtain a supporting residency permit, called 'Iqama' (an identity document for work visa), from the Ministry of Interior (MOI).

10. Working Visit Visa

With this visa the Visitor can work for a short duration during their stay. This is issued for few weeks to 3 months to perform a specific work.

Technicians for servicing an industrial machine, Architect coming in to survey a construction, doctors coming in to perform an operation are a few examples.

Visa process starts with the sponsoring company making a request to MoFA at the MoFA website, which is approved by the MoFA visa section.

11. Temporary Work Visa

This visa allows temporary working in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for up to 6 months, for example, for a Lawyer or Engineer.

This visa request has to be approved by the Ministry of Labour and follows the same process as a work visa.

12. Seasonal Visa

This is issued for temporary workers needed in Saudi during Hajj and Umrah season, for example cleaners, bus drivers, butchers, barbers etc. for a short duration lasting between 3 to 6 months only.

The visa approvals are issued by Ministry of Labour and the recruitment agent will add a name to the visa approval when the visa application is submitted to the Visa Service Centre.

13. Diplomatic Visa

This Visa is specific for Diplomats from other countries. Either the Diplomat is visiting the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia or is posted at diplomatic missions in the Kingdom.

Along with the general requirement of passport, photograph and application form an approval for the Diplomatic visa is issued by the Protocol Department within MoFA. Alternatively, the diplomats (or their representatives) could directly apply in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia missions in their country.

14. Special Visa

These visas are issued to holders of 'special' passports e.g. for an Engineer or an Accountant holding a special passport and not for Diplomatic passport holders.

15. Visit Organizations and Diplomatic Mission Visa

This visa is for staff working at the Embassy but not holding Diplomatic passports. This visa is only for short visits and requires the approval by the Protocol department.

16. Transit Visa

Travellers with a stopover or travelling through the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia require this visa. This includes people driving across the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Airline stopovers/ Transfers over 12 hours and less than 3 days are free visas.

The Traveller cannot leave the airport. Ladies need to be accompanied by a male partner if they are applying for a transit visa.

Both the above visas can be multiple entries for up to 3 days, with the days split between onward and return stopovers. A confirmed ticket is required for the purpose of this visa. The transit time should not exceed 72 hours / 3 days.

17. Product Delivery

Also called as Merchandise transport visa, this visa is valid for around 6 months and is issued to company personnel, truck drivers etc. engaged in delivering products (like fruits, household items) into the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia or transiting through the country while delivering products across the border.

18. Student Visa

For Student Visas an approval request is raised by the Ministry of Higher Education or University for named students who wish to pursue their higher studies in KSA.

Approval is required from MoFA after which the student applies directly at the Visa Service centre.

A passport valid for at least 12 months, photograph as per requirement, a duly filled application form, original birth certificate, original High school diploma, medical report, police verification & approval to travel from the applicant's government are the documents required for Student visa.

19. Treatment Visa

This visa is for the purpose of getting medical treatment in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The Hospital (government or private) will raise a named visa request along with an approval from the Ministry of Health.

20. Escort Visa

Visa for the family of a businessman on a business trip wanting to take his family along, visa for foreign maids and/or drivers accompanying GCC citizens (who themselves don't need a visa for KSA).

An expat Saudi family travelling back to Saudi on vacation wanting to bring their maid with them would also apply an escort visa for the maid.

For a new born child a mother's valid visa and sponsor ship is required. The husband must have valid residence in KSA.

21. Extended Return Visa

For work visa holders or resident (worker's family) who have returned to their country on vacation or other purposes, applicants need to get an exit visa and a re-entry back into Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The Passport department will issue the re-entry visa for a specific period. The applicant will apply for the Extended Return Visa if he/she overstays the re-entry visa, with a proof they still have a valid Iqama and a job in KSA.

22. Resident Visa

This visa category is for the family of work visa holders (of certain professions and above) that allows them to stay long term in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The worker sends a request to the Saudi Ministry of Interior, which approves the request depending on the profession of the worker and sends the approval directly to MoFA. Most workers need to be working in KSA for a while (need specific details) before they can apply for resident visas for their family. However, some professionals like engineers and physicians (need specific details- are these the only professions?) can apply for their family's resident visa the same time they apply and get their own work visa.

24. Businessman

This visa is issued to businessmen who want to enter the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to explore business opportunities in the country for investments and/ or partnerships. This is the only visa issued without the need for a sponsor and is only meant only for senior C-Level officials and heads of established businesses.

4. Visa Fees Show Details
Visa, Enjaz and Medical Fees

You must pay the applicable Visa, Enjaz and Medical fees (as applicable) and Service charge when submitting your application. The Visa fees are determined based on your Visa Category, Type of Entry and in some cases, Nationality as well.

Applicants may choose to pay the Visa, Enjaz and Medical fees either at the Visa Service Centre or through the Enjaz website (link to be provided here). If you have already paid these fees, kindly indicate this while scheduling your appointment to the Visa Service Centre.

Service Charges

There is a Service Charge levied (over and above the Visa and Enjaz fees) on each visa application submitted at the VFS Tasheel Visa Service Centre. This is a non- refundable fee and will be levied even on applicants who are exempted from paying the Visa or Enjaz fees.

5. Likely processing times for visa Show Details

The likely processing time for a Saudi Arabian visa is between 4 to 7 working days from the date it is received at the Mission, depending on the completeness and accuracy of the documents provided by the applicant. Click here to check your application status

8. Photograph Specifications Show Details
The photograph must be:
  • 2 x 2 inches in size
  • Not more than 06 months old
  • Coloured with plain white background
  • Full face view of the applicant, facing the camera directly- Side or angled views are not accepted
  • Identical, where more than 01 photograph is required to be submitted
  • On good quality paper
The photograph must not:
  • Be torn, creased or marked
  • Be trimmed or cut down from a larger photo to the size of the photograph size requirement detailed above
  • Have any writing on the front or back

9. Procedure to collect Passport/ timings Show Details

If you have submitted your passport to the Visa Service Centre for processing, you may visit the Status of Application link at any time post submission to check the status of your application. After the application is processed and a decision has been made on the visa by the Mission, the passport is returned to the Visa Service Centre for delivery to the applicant.

If you have opted for the SMS service while scheduling your appointment or submitting your application at the Visa Service Centre, you will additionally receive SMS updates on the status of your application.

To collect your passport:
  • Visit the Visa Service Centre Reception at the provided timing for Passport Collection
  • Please bring along the original Invoice- cum- Receipt provided to you at the time of submission of your application
  • If a representative or travel agent is collecting your Passport, they are required to carry an authorization letter signed by you in addition to the original Invoice cum Receipt. You may download the format of the Authorization letter from the Downloads section
  • On presenting the above documents, you will be directed to the Delivery section of the Visa Service Centre to collect your passport
  • If you have opted for the Courier service while scheduling your appointment or submitting your application at the Visa Service Centre, your passport will be delivered to the address provided by you during the submission process
Please note that if your Passport has not been collected within 30 days from the Visa Service Centre and/ or has been returned after 02 unsuccessful attempts by the Courier Company of delivering the passport at the address provided, your Passport will be returned to the Mission.
10. Security Regulations Show Details

Only applicants will be admitted to the visa service centre - with the exception of children (below 16 years) who should be accompanied by a responsible adult and elderly applicants (above 60 years), caretakers of applicants with physical disability and interpreters for the hearing impaired.

Due to security reasons the following items will not be permitted inside the Visa Service Centre or stored in the premises. Other items may be prohibited based on the discretion of security staff:

  • All battery operated or electronic gadgets such as cameras, audio / video cassettes, compact discs, MP3's, floppies, laptops, or portable music players
  • All bags such as travel bags, back packs, briefcases, suitcases, leather, jute or cloth bags and zip folders. Only a plastic bag containing your application related papers would be permitted.
  • Sealed envelopes or packages.
  • Any inflammable item such as matchboxes / lighters / fuel etc.
  • Any sharp objects such as scissors, pen knives or nail filers.
  • Weapon or weapon like objects or explosive material of any kind.

Please Note: There is no facility at the Visa Service Centre to store prohibited items. Applicants are requested to make alternate arrangements to safeguard their belongings.

For security reasons applicants may be subjected to physical frisking. Handheld/Archway metal detectors are safe for all including pregnant women and heart patients with cardiac pacemakers.

Applicants are requested to cooperate and in case of serious concerns, contact the Visa Service Centre manager.
